Improvement works taking place on a road in Hamilton are to start from next week.

The carriageway resurfacing will take place on Newhousemill Road from Davington Drive, Hamilton to Lismore, East Kilbride.

The works will be carried out over two phases and are due to start on Monday 19 January from 8am and are anticipated to be completed by 4pm on Friday 23 January.

Phase 1 - the road will be closed from Davington Drive to Parkneuk Road, Hamilton on Monday 19 January for one day.

Phase 2 - The road will be closed from Parkneuk Road to Lismore, East Kilbride including the junction of Muttonhole Road, Hamilton on Tuesday 20 January for four days.

A diversion will be in place for phase 1 via Parkneuk Road, Sydes Brae, Hillhouse Road, Wellhall Road, Earnock Road and vice versa.

A diversion will be in place for phase 2 via A726 Strathaven Road, Kingsway, East Kilbride Expressway, Sydes Brae, Parkneuk Road, Newhousemill Road and vice versa.

Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may occur during these essential road improvement works.

“Unfortunately, the road is not sufficiently wide enough to safely maintain vehicular access while the works are being undertaken.

“General traffic will be unable to travel through the closure during the works, although we will endeavour to maintain access for local residents within the closure wherever possible.

“There may be instances where local access and egress will be significantly delayed depending on the status and progress of works on site. Traffic Marshals and site staff will be there to advise and assist where access is required during the works.

“We would ask that all road users allow additional time for all journeys which involve the use of Newhousemill Road during the times indicated and that they plan their journey accordingly.”
